According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 7 children aged 10 to 19 experience a mental health disorder, yet many of these cases remain unrecognized and untreated. By routinely screening for mental health concerns, providing patient and family education about self-management strategies, offering first-line treatment, and facilitating specialty and emergency mental healthcare, pediatric clinicians have the potential to improve the lives of many children and their families who might otherwise not receive mental healthcare or receive care only after conditions become more severe and more debilitating. Using scenario-based learning, Young Minds Matter: Addressing Pediatric Mental Health aims to illustrate the application of decision-support tools by pediatric clinicians for patients presenting with anxiety, eating disorders, and recent suicidal ideation.
