Human trafficking survivors often experience physical and psychological trauma stemming from abuse and poor living conditions. Studies show that 30% to 88% of survivors had at least 1 encounter with a clinician while under the control of a trafficker. Because of a lack of training, clinicians often do not recognize trafficking warning signs or ask the patient about their situation in a way that builds trust. Taking a Trauma-Informed Approach to Human Trafficking teaches clinicians how to appropriately engage with these patients and facilitate an effective intervention on their behalf.
