Risk and Safety Issues in Podiatry XVI discusses pitfalls linked to poor communication with patients, including allegations of discrimination, lack of informed consent, and patient dissatisfaction. Literature supports the existence of an inverse relationship between being sued and communications skills. In other words, the likelihood of being sued is significantly decreased as communication skills are increased. Conversely, patient safety and satisfaction with their care increase in tandem with improved communication skills. Podiatrists play an important role in monitoring, educating, and treating people with long-term conditions. This course helps them master the communication skills they need to effectively provide patient-centered care.
