Risk and Safety Issues in Pediatrics: Inpatient XVI examines the interaction among pediatric healthcare professionals and their patients/families, discusses the relationship between ineffective communication and patient harm, and outlines evidence-based strategies to promote improved communication between clinical teams. Ineffective communication can occur any time information is exchanged between members of the healthcare team, including when conducting patient handoffs, sharing information during urgent situations, and documenting in the medical record. This course illustrates the role that ineffective communication plays in medical errors and highlights best practices to promote improved communication and patient safety in the pediatric setting.
