Risk and Safety Issues in Orthopedics XVI offers strategies for promoting safe, patient-centered orthopedic care in ambulatory and hospital settings. Orthopedics is a high-volume, high-risk medical specialty, but studies show that orthopedic healthcare professionals may not be fully aware of the risk implications and may not respond as needed. This course helps them recognize the importance of assessing patients for elder abuse and neglect, as well as the risks associated with thromboembolic disease as a primary complication for postoperative patients. It also describes effective ambulatory care risk mitigation strategies to improve the patient experience after orthopedic surgery.
