Risk and Safety Issues in Internal Medicine XVI focuses on the internal medicine specialist’s vital role in ensuring coordination of care for patients. An internal medicine specialist frequently functions as the gatekeeper for patients who have complex medical conditions and may require treatment from multiple providers. This course provides strategies to employ in 2 areas where an enhanced focus on the coordination of care decreases risk to the patient: (1) obtaining the best possible medication history as a foundational step for safer medication reconciliation practices, and (2) ensuring final resolution of incidental findings through testing appropriate to a patient’s individual risks and goals.
