Risk and Safety Issues in Anesthesia XVI examines the provision of non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) and the risks associated with this aspect of anesthesia care. Multiple factors can affect anesthesia providers’ ability to deliver a safe standard of care in remote facilities. These locations may lack sufficient staff and the necessary resources and equipment to provide prompt assistance in the event of a problem, and their patients—particularly those having cardiology and interventional radiology procedures—are often older and sicker, with higher ASA scores. This course increases awareness of the unique risks in this practice setting and provides strategies to improve patient safety.
