Interdisciplinary Approaches to Safely Manage Opioid Analgesia presents case scenarios that highlight the increased risk of opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD) in hospitalized patients. The course outlines the need for assessment and identification of risk factors for OIRD, appropriate modifications to the plan of care to mitigate risks present, and methods to increase the defensibility of documentation surrounding the care of patients with increased risk of OIRD. Case studies are used to maximize teaching points, but have been liberally modified to protect any identifiable patient information.
