Informed Consent and Refusal: Documentation and Communication describes appropriate documentation of the informed consent discussion, including but not limited to discussing inherent risks and reasonable alternatives; the duty of a physician seeking a specialty consult to relay specialist recommendations to a patient, insofar as they may be material to a patient’s treatment decisions; the non-delegable duty to provide informed consent; and incorporating patient-specific risk factors into informed consent discussions.
