BALTIMORE, MD—July 26, 2010—Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), announces the launch of a complimentary, certified, 20-credit performance improvement (PI) CME initiative, Performance Improvement Strategies in Multiple Sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex neurologic disease that poses multiple challenges to clinicians. Clinical research, pivotal clinical trials, and progress in understanding the complex pathophysiology of MS and its complications have led to dramatic improvements in the recognition and management of the disease.

“These advancements have allowed for the development of more therapeutic options and a comprehensive approach to management, which in turn have increased the complexity of optimizing treatment for the individual patient,” said faculty expert and activity chair, Bruce A. Cohen, MD. “This educational initiative allows participants to review the current evidence and consensus opinions for the management of MS to implement process-related strategies for improving patient care and optimizing practice performance.”

Performance Improvement Strategies in Multiple Sclerosis is an American Medical Association (AMA)-standardized, certified, three-stage initiative in which participants self-assess their current MS practice performance, develop an individual plan for sustained improvement in patient care, and reevaluate their practice changes based on their previous performance and peer-based standards of care.

PI CME has been recognized as an important component of continuing professional development and may meet multiple credentialing and reporting needs. Performance Improvement Strategies in Multiple Sclerosis is currently under review for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Lifelong Learning and Performance in Practice Maintenance of Certification.

Participation is simple, and enrollment is complimentary. Eligible healthcare professionals who complete the below stages in succession will earn 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each stage can be completed online or with the help of the Med-IQ concierge team, which is available to explain the initiative and provide tips to make the process more convenient.

Stage A: Assess Self-assess by comparing your current MS practice performance with peer-based standards of care.
Stage B: Apply Develop and follow your own plan for sustained improvement in MS patient care.
Stage C: Evaluate Reevaluate your processes for MS care by comparing your past performance with your newly implemented performance methods using peer-based standards of care.

As part of this initiative, additional complimentary MS educational resources are available, including three live, regional workshops; a certified, online implementation guide; and two live, national Community of Practice Audioconferences. More information can be found at www.pi-iq.com/multiplesclerosis.

Performance Improvement Strategies in Multiple Sclerosis is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and is supported by an educational grant from Teva Neuroscience.
