Inspiring Medical Education.

BALTIMORE, MD—May 1, 2014—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce the availability of the complimentary, online CME activity for gastroenterologists, Expert Perspectives in Individualized Contemporary Care for Short Bowel Syndrome.

Recent therapeutic advances may profoundly improve quality of life and outcomes for individuals living with short bowel syndrome (SBS); however, a 2013 survey found that up to 25% of gastroenterologists were not aware of these new advances.

This audio-enhanced publication reviews evidence-based management strategies and also features short clips from a roundtable discussion with nationally renowned faculty discussing their frontline experiences and best-practice recommendations for caring for patients with SBS.

“Patients with SBS experience significant maldigestion, malabsorption, and malnutrition and have an increased risk of mortality,” said Alan L. Buchman, MD, MSPH, of the Center for Gastroenterology and Nutrition in Skokie, IL. “In this online CME publication, we review strategies for managing malnutrition concerns and individualizing therapy to mitigate the clinical and quality-of-life risks associated with the long-term use of parenteral nutrition.”
