BALTIMORE, MD—March 31, 2014—Med-IQ, LLC, is taking part in the JDRF Maryland 2014 Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising event in Baltimore on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes is a fun, healthy, and effective way for individuals and organizations to show support for those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and raise critical funds for T1D research. Med-IQ, a Baltimore-based, award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is honored to be one of the local sponsors supporting the Maryland 2014 Walk.  

T1D is an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas loses its ability to produce insulin—a hormone essential for regulating metabolism. It affects both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. The disease has a substantial impact on one’s quality of life, requiring constant carbohydrate counting, several blood-glucose tests throughout the day and night, and a lifelong dependence on injected insulin. There is currently no cure for T1D. Serious complications can occur, including cardiovascular disease; nephropathy (kidney disease), which can eventually require dialysis; neuropathy (nerve damage), which can lead to amputations; and retinopathy, which can lead to blindness.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research and is focused on treating, preventing, and ultimately finding a cure for T1D and its associated complications.

The Maryland 2014 Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place on Saturday April 5, 2014, at M&T Bank Stadium Lots B & C in Baltimore at 9:30 AM. Registration begins at 8:00 AM.
