BALTIMORE, MD—January 3, 2014—The Endocrine Society and Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), have developed a complimentary CME-certified educational activity, The Evolving Therapeutic Landscape in Cushing’s Disease: Insights From the Experts. This initiative helps endocrinologists review current and emerging clinical evidence and guideline recommendations for the optimal management of patients with Cushing's disease.

Untreated Cushing’s disease or recurrent disease following surgery results in considerable morbidity and mortality due to pathophysiologic processes that stem from excess cortisol. The serious, and potentially fatal, consequences of this range from psychiatric illnesses (depression, psychosis, impaired memory, and sleep disturbances) to cardiovascular disease (coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure), cerebrovascular disease, and thrombotic disease.

“There is a need for medical therapies that can control the clinical manifestations of Cushing’s disease over the long-term,” said James W. Findling, MD, of Milwaukee, WI. “This activity focuses on the identification of patients who require evaluation for Cushing’s disease, the importance of managing associated comorbidities, and the role of current and emerging therapies.”

In this case-based, interactive Webcast, expert faculty review the key components of an accurate diagnosis and discuss common challenges encountered in the management of patients with recurrent disease following pituitary surgery.
