Med-IQ.
Inspiring Medical Education.

BALTIMORE, MD—November 12, 2013—The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), are sponsoring a new CME initiative, now available for clinicians in the federal healthcare system. This free publication is designed to help clinicians better identify and overcome barriers related to the management of schizophrenia and understand the appropriate use of long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics in clinical practice.

"Despite their benefits, LAI medications are often under-used when treating schizophrenia," said William A. Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Vice President of Education & Medical Affairs at Med-IQ. "This initiative helps highlight the potential for antipsychotic therapy to improve long-term outcomes, particularly related to the prevention of relapses, in the context of appropriate patient selection."

Participants will discuss the frequency and consequences of treatment nonadherence in patients with schizophrenia in the VA health system. They will also identify barriers to the use of LAIs within the federal healthcare system and develop strategies for overcoming them.
