Med-IQ.
Inspiring Medical Education.

BALTIMORE, MD—October 15, 2013—Med-IQ, a leader in the development of performance improvement (PI) and quality improvement (QI) CME initiatives, is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the American College of Cardiology (ACC) to provide a customizable, interactive PI technology solution for TEAM-A.

TEAM-A (The Evolution of Anticoagulation Management-Atrial Fibrillation) is an educational collaboration of ten organizations, including ACC, committed to providing education to healthcare professionals to reduce stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). As a recognized leader in the development and delivery of high-quality education for cardiovascular healthcare professionals, ACC led the initiative to develop the PI module’s educational content and partnered with Med-IQ to deliver the education through Med-IQ’s proprietary online PI technology system.

The TEAM-A PI CME activity is designed to help clinicians assess and improve the management of patients with AF by reviewing strategies for determining the risk and benefit of antithrombotic therapy, maintaining desirable levels of anticoagulation, and managing anticoagulation through medical procedures and special situations.

The online platform for the TEAM-A PI module (PIM) is unique in that participants have the option to select between two tracks depending on how they prefer to enter patient data for the initiative’s performance measures—either by manually abstracting retrospective chart data or by inputting performance rates calculated through the PINNACLE Registry, the ACC’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry’s outpatient quality improvement registry.

Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider, has been instrumental in advancing the science of PI CME. Since 2008, Med-IQ has launched 18 successful PI CME initiatives in 11 therapeutic areas. More than 15,000 healthcare professionals have enrolled in PI CME through Med-IQ’s technology platform, which follows the American Medical Association (AMA) PI CME three-stage model. Several of Med-IQ’s PI CME activities have been approved for maintenance of certification (MOC) credit by members of the American Board of Medical Specialties, including the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Med-IQ’s online PI CME platform is designed to be conducive to clinicians’ busy schedules, enabling them to participate while they practice. Med-IQ’s customizable PIM for TEAM-A was developed and launched within 10 weeks. It incorporates ABIM’s recently updated requirements for MOC through the Approved Quality Improvement (AQI) Pathway. Participants of the TEAM-A PIM can use their data to complete ABIM's Completed Project PIM and earn credit for ABIM MOC.

“Med-IQ is dedicated to improving healthcare quality in the United States by providing accessible, practice-focused CME/CE interventions that are timely, effective, and relevant to clinicians’ needs and address issues that will lead to better patient care,” said Catherine Mullaney, Vice President of Educational Partnerships at Med-IQ. “We are happy to have partnered with TEAM-A and ACC in developing this important educational initiative for clinicians who treat patients with AF.”
