Med-IQ.
Inspiring Medical Education.

BALTIMORE, MD—September 24, 2013—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce the availability of its latest CME/CE offering in oncology, Challenging Cases in Hematologic Malignancies: Expert Perspectives in Relapsed/Refractory ALL.

This interactive CME/CE initiative represents Med-IQ’s first educational activity in pediatric oncology, and its September launch date coincides with National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children in the United States under the age of 15, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric malignancy. This free, online CME/CE activity provides an update on recent advances in the treatment of relapsed/refractory pediatric ALL. It is enhanced with audio clips of faculty expert, Scott C. Howard, MD, MSc, Director of Outcome Evaluation and Morocco Programs of the International Outreach Program at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, discussing novel therapeutic strategies being tested in current clinical trials.

"Although cure rates have increased from less than 10% to nearly 90% over the past 50 years, some patients with ALL still relapse due to the persistence of small populations of chemotherapy-resistant leukemia-initiating cells," said Dr. Howard. "This online CME/CE activity provides clinicians with the opportunity to review evidence-based strategies to manage children with relapsed ALL, and briefly reviews supportive care recommendations to optimize their outcomes."

"Med-IQ is dedicated to improving healthcare quality in the United States by providing timely, accessible, practice-focused CME/CE interventions that are relevant to clinicians' needs and address issues that will lead to better patient care," said William A. Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Vice President of Education and Medical Affairs at Med-IQ. "We are honored to play a small part in the fight against pediatric cancer by offering this educational activity to healthcare professionals, free of charge. We are hopeful that this will be the first of many pediatric cancer educational initiatives in this important field.”
