BALTIMORE, MD—September 17, 2013—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce the availability of a new, complimentary CME initiative in familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) for cardiologists.

Clinical Conversations in Cardiology: Advances in the Identification and Management of Familial Hypercholesterolemia is a live, interactive educational activity that offers participants the opportunity to join their peers in a small-group discussion with nationally recognized FH experts about current questions and practice challenges related to the screening and management of FH. Participants will also review new clinical data and emerging treatment therapies during each 45-minute teleconference.

Although among the most common genetic disorders, FH may often be undiagnosed and untreated. Patients who go untreated for FH are approximately 20 times more likely to develop premature coronary heart disease. Cardiologists can improve outcomes in patients by remaining up-to-date on contemporary guidelines for the screening, identification, and management of patients with FH.

“During these interactive CME teleconferences, we will outline contemporary methods for screening patients who are at risk of FH,” said Amit Khera, MD, MSc, Director of the Preventive Cardiology Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. “Cardiologists are invited to join my colleagues and me as we discuss key clinical evidence for emerging therapies in the treatment of FH and how this information can be used to improve FH patient care.”
