BALTIMORE, MD—April 16, 2013—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce the availability of a new, complimentary CME/CE initiative in multiple sclerosis (MS) designed specifically for nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

One-On-One With the Experts: Individualized Interventions to Overcome Practical Challenges in MS is an interactive educational activity that offers participants the opportunity to speak directly with nationally recognized MS experts about challenges and clinical scenarios they face in their everyday practice and receive advice to develop individualized strategies to address them. The personalized, 30-minute teleconferences are AANP- and AAPA-certified.

In recent years, the management of MS has moved toward earlier diagnosis using new criteria and more immediate treatment initiation. However, clinicians who treat patients with MS lack concrete guidelines on the selection of disease-modifying therapy (DMT) and appropriate monitoring of patient response to treatment. Understanding the clinical risk-to-benefit ratios of currently available DMTs and being able to identify suboptimal response and switch treatments appropriately are essential competencies for busy clinicians, particularly nurse practitioners and physician assistants who already face significant time demands.

“The goal of this activity is to help participants develop strategies for identifying patients who are appropriate candidates for DMT, designing effective treatment plans for monitoring and responding to treatment efficacy, and optimizing patient and family education to encourage patients to be active participants in their own healthcare,” said Kathleen Costello, MS, ANP-BC, MSCN, of Johns Hopkins Multiple Sclerosis Center in Baltimore, MD. “I encourage nurse practitioners and physician assistants who treat patients with MS to join this unique educational discussion.”
