BALTIMORE, Md.—September 4, 2012—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce the availability of its latest CME/CE activity in oncology, Expert Perspectives and Emerging Data: Avoiding the Dangers of Cancer-Related Thrombosis.
The complimentary educational series consists of a CME/CE-certified online publication featuring audio clips of expert faculty discussing key issues related to venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis among ambulatory cancer patients, as well as ready-to-use supplemental educational tools for the practice setting.
"Cancer-associated thrombosis is the leading cause of death in cancer patients, and new data are emerging to suggest that certain cancer outpatients on systemic therapy also have a higher risk of developing VTE and warrant prophylaxis," said Alok A. Khorana, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine and Oncology and Vice-Chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center of the University of Rochester.
Developed for all members of the patient care team, this online activity reviews key findings from recent literature about current and emerging strategies to prevent VTE in ambulatory cancer patients and explores strategies for implementing effective education to increase patient awareness of VTE risk. All activities can be accessed on-demand at www.Med-IQ.com/a640.
