CME Research Report Helps Oncologists and Urologists Treat Advanced Prostate Cancer

Educational Resources

BALTIMORE, Md.—August 15, 2012—Prostate cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease, ranging from slow growth and minimal complications to rapidly progressive disease. A considerable percentage of patients ultimately progress to metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), even when treated with intent to cure.

To help oncologists and urologists make decisions on assessment and treatment strategies, Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), invites these specialists to participate in a new, complimentary CME course to understand treatment options for mCRPC, review strategies for referring patients with advanced prostate cancer to other specialists, and develop effective communication plans with both patients and specialists.

In 2011, Med-IQ conducted in-practice research with oncologists and urologists to determine current practice patterns, clinical gaps, and educational opportunities related to the assessment and management of mCRPC.

“From this research, we obtained grassroots-level information related to the challenges associated with risk assessment, referral, communication between specialists, treatment considerations, and patient education,” said William A. Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Vice President of Education and Medical Affairs at Med-IQ. “This complimentary CME-certified publication presents these findings within the context of current medical science on the assessment and management of advanced prostate cancer.”
