BALTIMORE, Md.—March 15, 2012—Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), and U.S. Medicine: The Voice of Federal Medicine are pleased to announce the availability of four complimentary CME/CE publications to help improve the care of patients who are being managed within the Veterans Health Administration.

"In partnership with healthcare institutions and expert faculty, we have designed these educational publications as valuable resources to assist our colleagues within the US Veterans Health Administration and the Federal Healthcare System in their efforts to provide high-quality, coordinated patient care to our active military and retired veterans," said William A. Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Vice President of Education and Medical Affairs at Med-IQ.

These publications provide federal healthcare professionals with an in-depth understanding of new treatment guidelines and evidence-based clinical study data and also incorporate practical information about the unique characteristics, challenges, strategies, and resources that should be considered when managing military patients with the specific conditions discussed. Of note, select publications have been developed in collaboration with healthcare institutions such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and Washington Hospital Center.

Federal healthcare professionals may now access certified CME/CE publications in the following clinical areas:

Each publication is available online and as a supplement to U.S. Medicine, a monthly publication that serves healthcare professionals working in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and U.S. Public Health Service. U.S. Medicine provides 35,000 physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and administrators with a mix of news, medical updates, interviews, reports on special government topics, and monthly columns.

The effectiveness of these educational activities is being evaluated with participant assessment tools that are designed to align with educational objectives, clinical practice guidelines, and clinical evidence. Data will be gathered to assess participant plans to change their clinical behavior as a result of the information presented in the publications (Davis Level 4- Competence).

"In tandem with our educational partners, we are committed to measuring and evaluating the anticipated impact of these educational activities to improve clinician competencies that directly affect patient care and the patient experience," Dr. Mencia said.
