Med-IQ, Collaborators to Deliver Five Presentations at 2012 Alliance for CME Annual Conference

BALTIMORE, MD—January 19, 2012—Med-IQ is pleased to announce that it will present five educational sessions with collaborators at the Alliance for CME’s 37th Annual Conference, January 21-24, 2012, in Orlando, Florida.

The annual conference is designed to advance The Alliance for CME’s dedication to accelerating excellence in health performance through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

"We look forward to presenting innovative educational strategies based on lessons we have learned and successes that directly relate to this year’s conference theme, Improving Professional Competence, Provider Performance, and Patient Care," said Scott Weber, Co-CEO of Med-IQ.

During the following breakout, small-group sessions, Med-IQ will collaborate with partners to educate CME providers on basic to recent advances in CME/CE/CPD:

What Can Managed-Care Claims Data Tell Us About CME Effectiveness?
Presentation Team: Scott Weber, Med-IQ; Carolyn Berry, PhD, NYU; Thomas Harkins, MA, MPH, Competitive Health Analytics, Inc.; Anthia Mandarakas, Sanofi US
Date/Time: Sunday, 1/22, 1:15 – 2:15 PM
Location: Del Lago 1-2/Lower
Key Points: Claims data provide a unique opportunity to analyze billing patterns of CME activity participants and potentially measure changes in clinician performance. As with any measurement strategy, however, this approach has inherent limitations. The presentation will help CME providers understand these limitations to successfully integrate such strategies into future activities.

Listening to the Patient’s Voice: What We Can Learn?
Presentation Team: Scott Weber, Med-IQ; Dawn Fitzpatrick, Sisters Network Baltimore Metropolitan; Amaryllis Soto, CCMEP, Sanofi US; Amparo Gonzalez, RN, CDE, FAADE, Emory University School of Medicine
Date/Time: Sunday, 1/22, 2:45 – 3:45 PM
Location: Palazzo G/Lobby
Key Points: The patient voice is conspicuously absent in the CME enterprise. The need exists for providers of CPD/CME education to integrate patient perspectives into the education they develop for healthcare professionals. This presentation will explore how providers can integrate the patient’s voice into future educational initiatives.

Using In-Practice Research as a Framework for Quality Improvement Education
Presentation Team: Kim Mahoney, University of Utah School of Medicine; Scott Weber, Med-IQ; Kim Evanyo, Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC; Carolyn Berry, PhD, NYU
Date/Time: Monday, 1/23, 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Location: Amarante 2-3/Lower
Key Points: This session will focus on the importance of in-practice research, proven strategies for effectively executing this type of research, and methods for interpreting and applying the data to develop meaningful quality improvement education.

Engineering Successful Systems-Based Quality Improvement (QI) Activities
Presentation Team: Sara C. Miller, MS, Med-IQ; Hershel Caywood, Jr., MHA, NHA Freedom Square Rehabilitation and Nursing Services; Kevin O’Neil, MD, FACP, CMD Brookdale Senior Living Inc.; Terry Dex, PharmD, Sanofi US
Date/Time: Monday, 1/23, 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Location: Del Lago 3-4/Lower
Key Points: The identification of institutions that demonstrate suboptimal clinical guideline adherence is a quantitative and qualitative process. Strategic assessments, a review of current protocols and order sets, and interviews with relevant clinicians and administrators form the basis for effective QI interventions. Presenters will guide participants through the design and delivery of an institution-specific QI initiative.

The Value of Maintenance of Certification as a Key Component of Performance Improvement CME
Presentation Team: William Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Med-IQ; Sue McGuinness, PhD, CCMEP, Teva Pharmaceuticals; Catherine B. Mullaney, MHA, Med-IQ
Date/Time: Monday, 1/23, 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Location: Palazzo F/Lobby
Key Points: Through the presentation of real-life examples of activities that have achieved MOC level 4 certification, the presenters will explore the challenges and opportunities of MOC in PI-CME and its role in physician lifelong learning. Presenters will also illustrate the multiple benefits available to both the learners and the provider.

The Alliance for CME’s 37th Annual Conference will be held January 21-24, 2012, at Grande Lakes Orlando—The Ritz-Carlton® and JW Marriott®, in Orlando, Florida.
