Robert M. Geist, MD, Joins Med-IQ as Clinical Content Manager

BALTIMORE, Md.—December 2, 2011—Med-IQ, recipient of the Alliance for CME’s 2011 William Campbell Felch Award for Research in CME, is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert M. Geist, MD, as Clinical Content Manager. Dr. Geist joins a team of clinicians at Med-IQ in designing innovative continuing medical education (CME) activities and effective learning experiences that address maintenance of certification competencies for healthcare professionals.

“Having participated in numerous CME activities as a physician, I believe I have an eye for activities that will help healthcare professionals retain and translate education into improved interaction with patients,” said Dr. Geist, who is currently developing content for a live educational series in diabetes care.

Prior to joining Med-IQ, Dr. Geist spent three and a half years as a board-certified family practice physician in New Zealand and in Brevard, North Carolina. During this time, he gained invaluable patient care experience and great familiarity with a wide variety of therapeutic areas. He taught medical students from UNC-Chapel Hill and served as a sports medicine physician for the athletic teams at Brevard College.

Dr. Geist obtained his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed a residency in Family Practice at MAHEC, a program affiliated with the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill and Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. In his current position, Dr. Geist will apply his advanced degrees in medicine and English, having obtained a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Virginia.

Dr. Geist maintains his board certification and continues to work closely with the faculty at MAHEC on several research projects. His areas of therapeutic expertise include hypertension, diabetes, geriatric medicine, sports medicine, and infectious diseases. He maintains active memberships in the American Medical Association (AMA), American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He has completed course work towards the Editing/Writing Core certificate offered by AMWA.

“Our certified activities will benefit from Dr. Geist’s expertise and passion to develop education that directly improves patient care,” said Rachel A. Karcher, PharmD, Director of Educational Strategy and Content at Med-IQ.

Dr. Geist will play an integral role in Med-IQ’s clinical content team, which includes:

Rachel Karcher, PharmD, Director, Educational Strategy and Content
Dr. Karcher is responsible for developing and overseeing the clinical content of medical education activities at Med-IQ as well as developing educational needs assessments and educational design for grant proposals. She manages the professional team of clinical content managers, internal medical writers, and freelance medical writers.

Julie L. Blum, PhD, Clinical Content Manager
Dr. Blum’s main responsibilities include identifying, recruiting, and managing program faculty, facilitating the development of clinical content for various CME activities, and reviewing the content for medical accuracy, alignment with program-specific learning objectives, and compliance with applicable company policies and industry guidelines. Her areas of therapeutic expertise include diabetes, atrial fibrillation, clinical depression, osteoporosis, and pain.

JaNeen Dancy, PharmD, Clinical Content Manager
Dr. Dancy’s main responsibilities include identifying, recruiting, and managing program faculty, facilitating the development of clinical content for various CME activities, and reviewing the content for medical accuracy, alignment with program-specific learning objectives, and compliance with applicable company policies and industry guidelines. Her areas of therapeutic expertise include atrial fibrillation, acute coronary syndromes, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, and pain.

Allison J. Gardner, PhD, Assistant Director, Educational Strategy and Content
Dr. Gardner contributes to the educational direction and platform design of new grant proposals and manages the recruitment of faculty and development of clinical content for various funded CME activities. Her areas of therapeutic expertise include cardiology, psychiatry, neurology, and oncology.

Sara C. Miller, MS, Assistant Director, Educational Strategy and Content
Ms. Miller contributes to the educational direction and platform design of new grant proposals and manages the recruitment of faculty and development of clinical content for various funded CME activities. Her areas of therapeutic expertise include cardiology, endocrinology, genetics, neuromuscular disease, and oncology.

Stephanie A. Stowell, MPhil, Senior Medical Writer
Ms. Stowell’s responsibilities include developing scientific content for grant proposals and educational programs. In addition, she composes original journal publications that describe and present educational program outcomes. Her clinical areas of expertise include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, and venous thromboembolism.

“I most look forward to incorporating my clinical medicine and writing interests in a manner that will have wide-reaching results with the development of effective educational programs for practicing clinicians,” Dr. Geist said.
