Med-IQ Wins Distinguished Alliance for CME Award

BALTIMORE, MD—November 3, 2010—Med-IQ, America’s most respected continuing medical education (CME) company, is pleased to announce that it has been honored with the Alliance for CME’s distinguished 2011 William Campbell Felch Award for Research in CME for a program conducted with Duke University School of Medicine.

The award-winning project, The Use of Antithrombotic Therapies in the Prevention and Treatment of Arterial and Venous Thrombosis: A Survey of Current Knowledge and Practice Supporting the Need for Clinical Education, explores a survey of 647 practicing physicians and their current beliefs, behaviors, and knowledge surrounding the use of antithrombotic therapies in the treatment of their patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), acute coronary syndromes (ACS), and venous thromboembolism (VTE). This research project was supported by an educational grant from Pfizer, Inc.

“We are honored to be recognized by the CME industry for this comprehensive research study,” said Katherine Grichnik, MD, Associate Dean of Continuing Medical Education at the Duke University School of Medicine. “It is our goal that this study helps support the need for clinical education to help prevent and improve the care of patients with AF, ACS, and VTE.”

The following study methods and vehicles were used:

  • Two expert roundtables
  • Five in-practice research site visits in diverse regions of the country including: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Central-Southwest, Midwest, Northwest, and West
  • Five electronic surveys of clinicians by region including: East, Midwest, West
  • Review of relevant clinical literature and data from outside sources such as government agencies and specialty societies
  • One publicly-accessible Web site for data gathering
