BALTIMORE, MD—October 8, 2010—Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce that its complimentary performance improvement (PI) CME initiative in diabetes care has been approved by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part IV Credit through the Approved Quality Improvement (AQI) Pathway.

“Med-IQ’s performance improvement initiative in diabetes care meets the requirements of our AQI pathway and supports the goal of our MOC program – to promote lifelong learning and the enhancement of clinical judgment and skills essential for high quality patient care,” said Elizabeth Blaylock, Vice President of PIM Development at the ABIM.

Primary healthcare professionals are on the front line of diabetes care, and it is estimated that 20 percent of the patients they see each day have diabetes.

“Med-IQ’s diabetes PI CME initiative has not only increased awareness of my patient care performance, but has also challenged me to conceive and develop strategies that provide more efficient and complete care delivery,” said Luigi F. Meneghini, MD, MBA, Director of the Eleanor and Joseph Kosow Diabetes Treatment Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, FL.

What is PI CME?
PI CME has been recognized as an important component of a physician's continuing professional development, and may answer multiple credentialing and reporting needs for physicians. Med-IQ is a leader in providing AMA-standardized, certified PI CME initiatives and currently offers PI CME in the areas of diabetes, multiple sclerosis, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, osteoporosis, and venous thromboembolism (VTE), with more than 5,000 physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners registered to participate.

As part of the ABIM MOC program, internists and subspecialists are required to engage in self-assessment of practice performance. Performance Improvement Strategies: Diabetes Care, is approved through ABIM’s AQI Pathway and is eligible for 20 points toward the Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance requirement.

“We are pleased to offer internists and subspecialists the ability to earn vital MOC credit and 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ while evaluating and improving their clinical practice methods according to board-specific competencies within diabetes care,” said William A. Mencia, MD, Vice President of Education and Medical Affairs at Med-IQ.
