Overview: This online CME publication describes the role of the gut microbiome in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and discusses the efficacy and safety of current treatment strategies that target the intestinal microbiota in patients with IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D). In addition, this publication reviews several pertinent new studies that were presented at the 2017 Digestive Disease Week meeting in Chicago, IL. It also includes audio clips from an in-depth expert roundtable discussion on the study results.
