The Challenge of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms: Practical Management Strategies for the Federal Healthcare Professional
Overview: In January of 2010, Med-IQ and the University of Cincinnati convened a roundtable to discuss strategies for managing multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in federal healthcare settings. Faculty experts reviewed the most problematic MDROs, discussed factors that contribute to antimicrobial resistance, identified risk factors for MDRO infection, and suggested possible actions that may reduce the risk of MDRO transmission within healthcare facilities in the Department of Veterans Affairs and active-duty military branches. This article summarizes the roundtable discussion and expands on key topics with support from current medical literature.
