CME Publication Features Multidisciplinary Insights on the Management of Acute Heart Failure

Evolving Strategies in the Management of Acute Heart Failure

BALTIMORE, MD—June 23, 2015—Although evidence from community-based studies of heart failure (HF) patients demonstrates that hospitalization rates have declined over the last decade, patients with acute HF experience long inpatient stays, high rehospitalization rates, and poor survival outcomes. Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), released a complimentary CME-certified publication to familiarize clinicians with clinical data regarding prognostic factors and emerging therapeutic strategies, as well as short- and longer-term benefits of available therapies.

Evolving Strategies in the Management of Acute Heart Failure, which expires this week, presents current evidence on the optimal management of patients with acute HF that can be applied to individualized treatment strategies for this vulnerable patient population. The publication is enhanced by audio clips from a multidisciplinary roundtable discussion that provide real-world perspectives on common challenges faced by both cardiologists and emergency medicine physicians in the risk stratification and clinical management of acute HF.

“Available treatments have demonstrated variable success in improving presenting signs and symptoms of acute HF, but none have significantly altered postdischarge outcomes,” said William A. Mencia, MD, CCMEP, Vice President of Education and Medical Affairs at Med-IQ. “In this publication, we invite clinicians to review various approaches for tailoring treatment strategies based on patient factors, clinical presentation, and laboratory results that ultimately lead to optimal outcomes.”
