Case Explorations in the Treatment of Advanced Gastric Cancer: A Clinical Cliffhangers Series

BALTIMORE, MD—May 28, 2015—Gastric cancer often remains undiagnosed until it has reached an advanced and incurable stage and, until recently, little evidence to direct optimal therapeutic approaches was available. Oncologists face the challenges of incorporating recent and emerging clinical data into practice as well as developing individualized treatment regimens to address the needs and goals of patients with advanced gastric cancer.

To help physicians better implement contemporary evidence into patient care, Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), has released a complimentary, CME-certified educational series that follows Harold, a fictional patient with newly diagnosed advanced gastric cancer, through the course of disease. Case Explorations in the Treatment of Advanced Gastric Cancer: A Clinical CliffhangersSM Series is an interactive, unique platform that presents realistic clinical scenarios and involves participants in Harold’s management. For instance, clinicians can identify first-line treatment approaches for this patient case, see how their selections compare with an expert’s, and review current evidence-based patient-monitoring strategies for disease- and treatment-related effects.

Webisode 2: Examining Treatment Approaches to Progressive Disease

“In this Clinical Cliffhangers series, learners can review up-to-date clinical trial data and guideline recommendations and make treatment decisions about a case that is representative of this type of malignancy,” said Johanna Bendell, MD, director of GI Oncology Research at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville, TN. “The interactive nature of this educational model enables clinicians to apply recent evidence not only to Harold’s case, but also to their own clinical practice.”
