Complimentary CME Publication Incorporates Patient, Caregiver, and
Clinician Perspectives

Faces of PD: Patient, Caregiver, and Physician Insights on the Optimal Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease

BALTIMORE, MD—April 21, 2015—Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a complex disorder that requires continual adjustment from patients, caregivers, and clinicians. For instance, patients must adapt both physically and psychologically to the effects of PD, and caregivers must also learn to cope with the implications of the disease on their lives. As the disease advances, neurologists who manage patients with PD must guide them through each new stage and modify therapy as needed.

Clinicians are invited to read Faces of PD: Patient, Caregiver, and Physician Insights on the Optimal Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. Sponsored by Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), this interactive online publication presents evidence for available therapies as well as strategies for managing motor and nonmotor symptoms of PD. It also incorporates the unique perspectives of three groups affected by the disease—patients with PD, caregivers, and clinical experts—through audio and video clips. These individuals discuss key topics such as the patient-clinician relationship, treatment expectations, and the progression of disease.

“Neurologists who care for this patient population are instrumental in helping patients process their diagnosis, remain adherent to treatment, and achieve an acceptable quality of life,” said David M. Swope, MD, associate professor of neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. “However, managing PD presents a myriad of clinical challenges. This CME-certified publication can help clinicians better understand the issues affecting patients and their caregivers and enable improved individualization of both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies.”
