Complimentary CME/CE Publication Explores Strategies for Managing Multiple Sclerosis Patients With Neurogenic Bladder Dysfunction

State-of-the-Art Care for Multiple Sclerosis Patients With Bladder Dysfunction

BALTIMORE, MD—April 9, 2015—Neurogenic bladder dysfunction (detrusor and sphincter) occurs in approximately 80% of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and has a significant effect on quality of life and physical well-being. To optimize the management of bladder dysfunction in patients with MS, Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), invited three expert nurse practitioners to discuss their perspectives during a roundtable meeting. Key insights and best practices from their conversation were synthesized in an online publication.

State-of-the-Art Care for Multiple Sclerosis Patients With Bladder Dysfunction is a free transcript-based publication that reviews the effects of neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO), presents strategies for selecting appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions, and explores methods for evaluating treatment satisfaction. This CME/CE-certified activity is enhanced with audio clips from the roundtable that discuss safety, efficacy, and patient factors that should be considered when caring for those with this condition.

“Nurses and nurse practitioners who manage MS patients with NDO should be familiar with appropriate strategies for screening bladder dysfunction and available symptomatic therapies,” said Amy Perrin Ross, APN, MSN, CNRN, MSCN, neuroscience program coordinator at Loyola University Chicago in Maywood, IL. “In this roundtable-based publication, my colleagues and I encourage clinicians to take a patient-centered approach to care, which can improve patient outcomes, adherence, and health-related quality of life.”
