Explores Recent Developments in the pathophysiology of MBD in CKD

BALTIMORE, MD—March 24, 2015—New insights have been made into the pathophysiology of events that occur as a result of abnormalities of calcium, phosphorus, PTH, and/or vitamin D levels. These scientific advances have led to substantial shifts in expert perspectives regarding optimal care for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at risk of developing mineral and bone disorders (MBD). The science continues to evolve, and clinicians must critically evaluate available and emerging data when making routine care decisions.

To help address these challenges, Med-IQ, an award-winning, ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), has released an engaging online activity designed for cardiologists, endocrinologists, and nephrologists. Contemporary Science for CKD-MBD: What We Know, What We Don’t, and What We Need is a CME-certified publication that explores recent developments in the pathophysiology of MBD in patients with CKD. Additionally, Web-enabled video clips of expert faculty discussing practical treatment strategies reinforce key educational points and help facilitate the translation of clinical evidence into routine clinical practice.

“MBD in patients with CKD affects a variety of organ systems, so this dynamic online publication will help supply a variety of specialists with knowledge for the personalized management of CKD-MBD,” said Sophie A. Jamal, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, in Toronto, ON.
