Key Topics in Gaucher Disease Addressed at a Complimentary CME Satellite Symposium During the 2015 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting

The Evolution of Science, Medicine, and Patient-Centered Care in CKD-MBD

BALTIMORE, MD—March 12, 2015—Healthcare professionals who manage patients with Gaucher disease (GD) are invited to join a panel of nationally renowned experts at a free continuing medical education (CME) satellite symposium dinner during the 2015 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting, hosted by the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG). During The Evolving Therapeutic Landscape in Gaucher Disease, expert faculty will review key topics in GD, including the pathogenesis, genetic factors, and clinical manifestations associated with this disorder; the benefits and limitations of available medications; and emerging treatment strategies.

New data regarding the genetics, biochemistry, and pathophysiology of GD have provided an opportunity to expand current therapeutic approaches. As the therapeutic landscape for GD evolves, clinicians must be able to evaluate clinical symptoms and initiate or modify treatment as necessary. To help address these educational needs, our expert panel will discuss topics such as individualized treatment strategies and current and emerging therapies for GD.

“During this session, we will examine recent evidence on available treatments and review patient- and symptom-based factors to consider when making treatment decisions,” said Pramod K. Mistry, MD, PhD, FRCP, professor of medicine, pediatrics, and cellular & molecular physiology at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. “We will also present methods for developing treatment plans, incorporating contemporary data into clinical practice, assessing changes in GD symptoms, and determining whether treatment modifications are warranted.”

The CME satellite symposium is not part of the ACMG official scientific program. Sponsored by Med-IQ, this event will be held during the 2015 ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT, on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Dinner will be served.
