Progress in Gaucher’s Disease: Comorbidities and Strategies

Advancing the Management of Gaucher's Disease

BALTIMORE, MD—February 3, 2015—Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), will be hosting a certified CME dinner satellite symposium on the management of Gaucher’s disease (GD) at the 11th Annual WORLDSymposium™.

GD is a rare lysosomal storage disorder that is often associated with other diseases. Although the understanding of this rare genetic disorder has increased in recent years, certain aspects of the disease still remain unclear, like the relationship of GD to Parkinson’s disease (PD), pulmonary issues, and certain types of cancers.

During this live event, Advancing the Management of Gaucher’s Disease, a faculty panel will review key topics in GD, including the risk and causes of PD and malignancies associated with type 1 GD. The interactive event will also review the benefits and limitations of available medications and emerging treatment strategies for neuronopathic GD, and important factors for selecting patients for treatment, such as comorbid conditions, pharmacogenetics, and concomitant medications.

“The introduction of new therapies has provided a means to change the clinical course and outcomes for many patients with type 1 GD” says T. Andrew Burrow, MD, assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. “This symposium will also explore strategies for overcoming the unmet medical needs including risks of developing associated diseases such as PD and cancer.”

This free CME dinner meeting will be held in Orlando as a satellite symposium at the 11th Annual WORLDSymposium™ on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 6:45 PM to 8:45 PM at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Clinicians are invited to visit www.Med-IQ.com/a836, call (toll-free) 866 858 7434, or e-mail info@med-iq.com for more information.
