BALTIMORE, MD—September 2, 2014—Registration is now underway for the certified CME symposium, Evolving Strategies to Improve Patient-Clinician Communication and Treatment Adherence in Multiple Sclerosis. Sponsored by Med-IQ, an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), this independently supported satellite symposium will be held during the 2014 Joint ACTRIMS-ECTRIMS Meeting in Boston.

Developed to help neurologists optimize the care of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), the 1-hour symposium will explore available disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for the treatment of MS, discuss the importance of adherence, and review patient-focused strategies for overcoming adherence barriers. Presented by a panel of internationally recognized faculty, the symposium will feature real-world clinical case vignettes to help clinicians improve communication and incorporate shared treatment planning into routine practice.

“The recent emergence of novel pharmacotherapies and new formulations of existing agents have ushered in significant advances in MS management. However, incorporating patient perspectives into MS care and developing shared treatment approaches still present challenges for many clinicians,” said Sascha Köpke, Nursing Research Group, Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Lübeck. “These are barriers that must be addressed to minimize the impact of the uncertain and variable nature of the disease, the capacity for severe disability, and the pervasive issues of suboptimal treatment adherence.”
