BALTIMORE, Md.—June 22, 2012—Advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who care for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) are invited to speak with nationally recognized MS experts in the new, complimentary CME/CE activity, Clinical Conversations in Multiple Sclerosis.
The 30-minute, individualized AANP-/AAPA-certified teleconferences are designed to review strategies for identifying patients with MS who are appropriate candidates for disease-modifying therapy (DMT). Faculty experts will discuss methods for designing effective treatment plans and monitoring and managing suboptimal response, as well as the potential role of emerging agents in the MS therapeutic landscape; participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about challenging clinical scenarios they face.
"Although significant advances have been made in the understanding of MS, treatment remains challenging due to evolving diagnostic criteria, the lack of definitive guidelines and algorithms to inform treatment decisions, and the limitations of available treatments," said Kathleen Costello, MS, ANP-BC, MSCN, of Johns Hopkins Multiple Sclerosis Center. "Early and ongoing therapy with DMT has been shown to be beneficial, yet identifying appropriate candidates and selecting the appropriate agents can be challenging. During these CME/CE-certified teleconferences, we review the clinical risk-to-benefit ratios of currently available DMTs and explore strategies for evaluating, identifying, and treating suboptimal response."
