Our CME Mission
The purpose of Med-IQ's CME Program is to deliver education that supports healthcare professionals' lifelong efforts to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies. Results are validated by measurable changes, which include improvements in competence, physician performance, and patient outcomes.
This mission is accomplished by providing high-quality CME interventions that improve the quality of care delivered to patients with an emphasis on:
- Providing healthcare professionals with the most current, evidence-based information on diagnosis and treatment modalities
- Improving clinical skills to address gaps between current and optimal practice
- Promoting a commitment to lifelong learning through self-paced, modular formats and emphasis on sustained and applied learning; and ultimately
- Improving the quality of patient care
All activities are planned and executed independently, fair and balanced, and free of commercial bias.
Depending on learning needs, target audience, and the scope of practice of individual learners, content is based on basic science, advances in clinical medicine, research, public health, specialty topics, improvements in clinical practice, discussions of new technological advances in diagnosis and treatment, and incorporation of multidisciplinary team members when appropriate. In keeping with the ACGME/ABMS physician competencies, the primary clinical areas served are cardiovascular, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, oncology, and respiratory medicine.
The major target audiences for these activities are physicians including, but not limited to, primary care physicians, allergists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, internists, oncologists, pulmonologists, and other healthcare professionals considered appropriate for specific activities (eg, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurse practitioners).
Types of Activities
Updated clinical information is provided through live and enduring activities. All activities are designed to link the application of the learning that took place to competence in practice. A variety of teaching/learning methods are developed based on proven adult learning principles, including case-based problem solving, sequential/modular learning platforms, roundtable discussions between recognized medical experts, live symposia and workshops, medical journal articles, newsletters, and electronic/Internet activities. A variety of medical education enduring activity formats address different learning styles and time constraints of learners. Enduring materials allow for reinforcement of learning results, employ interactive learning methods for electronic modalities, and permit learners to tailor their learning to their own gaps in knowledge and performance.
Through successful completion of certified CME activities, Med-IQ expects to increase physician participants' knowledge base, which, when combined with the individual's experience and judgment, will enhance physician competence. Outcomes are measured by activity evaluations that report the majority of participants indicated the learning objectives have been met and that the learner intends to make a change in practice. Selected outcomes studies for individual activities are designed to measure knowledge, competence, performance, and patient outcomes.
